CBAM definitive period · since 1 January 2026
Stay on top of the CBAM threshold.
50 tonnes a year decide whether you must become an authorised CBAM declarant. CBAMfix reads your import documents, keeps count and warns you in time – before goods get stuck at the border.

Why the threshold is underestimated
The annual total counts
Not the single shipment: all CBAM goods under all CN codes are added up per importer and calendar year – steel screws as well as aluminium profiles.
Above it, everything applies
Once the threshold is exceeded, reporting and certificate obligations apply to all CBAM imports of the year – back to the first kilo.
Authorisation takes time
The competent authority (in Germany: DEHSt) has 120 days to decide on an application, longer if it requests more information. Reacting only at 50 tonnes is too late – and until authorised you may not import any further CBAM goods.
How CBAMfix works
- 1
Upload documents
Customs duty notice, customs declaration or forwarder invoice – as PDF or photo, several at once.
- 2
Check and confirm
The AI reads the CN code and net mass and flags CBAM goods under Annex I. You confirm with one click.
- 3
Get warned
CBAMfix keeps count per calendar year, projects the total and writes to you before the authorisation deadline gets tight.
- Every CN code checked against Annex I, with all exclusions (scrap, ferro-alloys, P+K fertilisers)
- Projection to year end and expected date of exceeding the threshold
- Notes on indirect representation, electricity and hydrogen, and importers outside the EU
- CSV import from your customs software and CSV export for your records
- Team access, passkeys and two-factor login
- Servers in Germany, no tracking cookies

Frequently asked questions
What is CBAM?
CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is the EU's carbon border levy under Regulation (EU) 2023/956. Anyone importing cement, electricity, fertilisers, iron and steel, aluminium or hydrogen into the EU must, since 2026, buy certificates for the embedded emissions – unless they stay below the mass threshold.
What does the 50-tonne threshold mean?
Since 1 January 2026, importers are exempt from CBAM obligations as long as the net mass of all CBAM goods imported in a calendar year does not exceed 50 tonnes. The total across all CN codes per importer counts, as stated in the customs declarations.
What happens if I exceed the threshold?
Then the obligations apply to all CBAM imports of the whole calendar year – not just the quantity above 50 tonnes. Without authorised CBAM declarant status you may no longer import CBAM goods. The competent authority has 120 days to decide on the application, longer if it requests more documents. That's why CBAMfix warns you early.
Does the threshold apply to electricity and hydrogen?
No. There is no mass threshold for electricity and hydrogen – you need the authorisation from the first import. Indirect customs representatives also need it regardless of quantity.
How do my imports get into CBAMfix?
The easiest way is to upload customs duty notices, customs declarations or forwarder invoices as PDF or photo. The AI reads CN code, net mass, date and country of origin; you check and confirm. Alternatively, enter items manually or import a CSV file from your customs software.
Is CBAMfix legal or customs advice?
No. CBAMfix is a tool that organises your imports, keeps count and warns you. You remain responsible for classifying your goods and meeting your CBAM obligations; the Regulation and the guidance of the competent authority are authoritative.
